104 days to go - and no weigh in

Its been a carb free week, so that is great. In other news, my scale is completely broken, so I have no idea ho much I have gained or lost. I will make a plan though, so I will let you know as soon as I know. I have a feeling that I lost a bit more, and would hazard a guess that I am around 102 kg's at the moment. Going to gym in my lunch hour from today, and not really looking forward to it. I need to get some training done, so I will go, ad it will be great if I can stick to it for 104 days. I know the eating only takes you so far. I want to be active at least 5 times a week, and that is the goal from now on. There are a few things I am very proud off. I have been to parties, been very social, and I have stuck to my guns. No Carbs, and only whiskey and water (which you do get used to Natalie!). The big excuse used to be our social calender. It is not an excuse any more, which is great. This week I have a function on Tuesday night, and two parties on Friday and Saturday, so I will have to behave! So here is what I want to say next week Monday:

  1. I weigh less than 100kg's - that is possible
  2. I want to workout more than 5 times this week.
  3. I want to stick to carb free.
  4. I want to enjoy all the parties, but stay on whiskey and lots of water, no sugary stuff.

Screw resolutions - this is happening this year...

I am making this list, and my plan is to tick them off is the year goes by. I hope you all have a fantastic 2014 - full of good health, great weight loss, and may all your biggest dreams come true.

My dream is to be able to pull lines through all of the following before 1 January 2014.

  1. Weigh less than 90 kg's.
  2. Stop smoking for good.
  3. Do a half marathon.
  4. Loose my gut for good.
  5. Write a short story, book, play, something.
  6. Save enough to go to Mauritius without debt in November.
That is it.

Yello, yep, I am still around

And it is going great. Unbelievably great, so great, that I figure that before we say hello to December, I might actually be able to post a magical number on that "the K's I have shed page". It's been tough, but it is summer, and I am swimming every night, I am eating well, I have had the odd obstacle, the odd party, and the odd relapse cheese burger. 95% of it has been great though, I am doing really well, I so want to tell you where I am weight loss wise, but I can't, I promised myself when I enter my weight again, it will be to numbers, a point, and that is it, if that is 99.9 than I will be 99.9% happy. When I first started blogging and toying with the idea of loosing weight that was the number. Get your ass down to 99.9kg's, then well reboot and pick a new target. I was at 114.7kg's when I decided to make 99.9kg's a target. Many beers, burgers, workouts and blowouts and more than a year later, I am not far off, it is reachable, so reachable that I can get there within this month. I know I haven't been blogging much, but I have been reading a few of yours religiously. To Josh, over at 700 Pounds is as bad as it sounds. Thanks for the inspiration, it led to perspiration, which led to weight loss. To Natalie, at path to petite. Thanks for also struggling, also juggling a billion things, also living life and getting it done. You guys kept me going. It's weird, I am a popular guy, with a lot of friends, but to me this weight loss thing is very personal, and it's nice to share it with all of the people that read my blog. Here is no masks, no excuses, and just the truth. I wont blog again until I get to my 99.9kgs. SO here is hoping that I will be back soon, in the meantime, keep on going on.

REPORT TIME

So, 7 days gone, 93 to go.

Monday and Tuesday went well. Wednesday also went quite well, we went out for dinner with friends and I had a steak and some veg. No fries for this guy!

Thursday went well, I had a small piece of garlic bread but otherwise it was all good.

Friday night a buddy and his wife came to visit, we ended up drinking way to many whiskeys and I had about 3 pizza slices.

Saturday I had a few beers with the rugby. It's not like I can drink water while we smashed the Wallabies! Had a wrap for dinner and were pretty healthy during the week.

Yesterday I had some chicken and veg. The in laws joined us for lunch and I had some ice cream for dessert.

All and all it could have gone much worse this first week.

I am still pretty sick and all the dust hanging around the house while we are building are really not helping my sinus issues!

Here's what I am aiming for this week:

  • HYDRATE - keep on drinking water
  • EAT - have some more foods during the day
  • SWEAT - walk, gym, I must get my heart rate up at least 5 times in the next 7 days.
  • BLOG - I need to keep track
Hope you all have a great week!

100 DAYS - Let's do this

Yep, I know I put some things down that I want to do yesterday. Blog More, eat healthy, exercise, loose weight, all the usual.

Then I started playing around with dates, and found out that if I start my journey on Monday, the 2nd of September, and go on for 100 days, I will be done on my wedding anniversary, the 10th of December 2013.

So there it is, it is 100 days to blog more, do more, loose more, get fit and get healthy.

I will do my best to blog more about the journey, and to see how much I can loose, and to turn my lifestyle around.

In other news, we are renovating our house, which is nice, we are building an exterior wall and taking down the palisades. Painting the house, and renovating a few things. We are using the old palisades to make 2 separate enclosures, so that we can give our garden a break form the dogs and also get that looking pretty. The dogs are going mad with all the painters and builders around the house, and hopefully they can finish up within three weeks.

I played some golf yesterday, it was nice summer like weather and a really nice round. I can see that I have not been playing much though! It was still fun, I did realise that I really do need to work out more as I am pretty unfit and got tired with about 4 holes left, which really did not help my already struggling round!

The wife and a friend has taking up cross fit, she seems to be enjoying it but complained big time this morning of a sore everything, especially legs. I still envy her drive and motivation. Hopefully I can also get on that band wagon.

Well, that's that for August then, Sunday is September, spring time, and time to make the change.

It's 100 days,

Let's to this!

hitting the road

So after a few months of laying around and chillaxing way to much, we had a nice big braai on Friday. Me and my wife went for drinks after work, and on our way home a fellow tabler phoned to ask if we want to come by for a quick drink. Needless to say we ended up having more than a quick drink, and a few shooters, and a lekker braai. This guy is 40 years old, weighs about 105kg's and have done 3 Ironmans and a comrades. He is also completely out of shape at the moment. So we got talking about training, loosing weight, and how out of shape we are. Then the challenge was set. My wife dared me to do a half marathon on the 27th of September. In my intoxicated state, I accepted, so that was that. I was in Cape Town from Sunday so our training started today. We did 4km, I actually feel pretty good, we probably walked 80% of the time, but still, I was active from 5:30 this morning for a good 30 minutes. It feels awesome, there are training plans coming, and it is great to do it with 2 friends, of which one has done this kind of stuff before, but the other is in the same boat is me. So here I go again, I am amped, and hopefully I will be doing that half marathon in September. And let's hope the weight melts off.

LOOKING BACK

On the 2nd of May 2012, I set myself some targets. I stumbled on them today, and figured I would see where I was at the moment.

Here is 11 things I really want to do, be able to say, by the 12 month:

1. I reached my target weight – 89.9 kg’s.
This is the big goal, this is what I am here for, this is what I will do.

Well, this is the big one, I am getting there, but I am not near there yet. I would still love to be able to say this before the 12th month!

2. I have quit smoking – for good – for ever.
I have tried many a time, I have read about people quitting when they start to exercise as you really don’t feel like it – I hope I will be one of those people.

Getting there...

3. I can run a half marathon.
I never was much of a runner, I was a good cyclist and swimmer – this is something I figure I could do – I have 6 months to get there. Tomorrow will be an early morning!

Nowhere close, but, I will do this before the 12th month.

4. Get my waist below 100cm.
I’m currently at 132cm, it should be 94cm, if I am below 100, I would be happy!

I have not measured my waist in a while, I know I am not at 132 anymore, but I know I am not below 100 either.

5. Get rid of most of my pills.
I drink a wide array of pills, for all kinds of stuff, losing weight and quitting smoking should get me of a few. – More on this later.

This one I am proud to say I am very close to achieving.

6. Never diet – ever.
I don’t want to loose weight, and put it on again, I want to keep it off, lifestyle change – not fad diet change.

I am getting this one right. I am going low carb, and it's a lifestyle, not a diet.

7. Be committed
To keep loosing weight, keep running/swimming/cycling/going to gym.

I am more committed than ever. Winning

8. Get positive.
I can be depressed – sometimes. I am no fun then, I don’t need that.

I have heaps of stuff to sort out, but I am more committed than ever.

9. Appreciate my wife, more
I love her to death, she does a whole lot of shit I take for granted.

I am loosing this battle, and need to appreciate her about 6 times as much as stated in May last year!

10. Enjoy work
I spend half my life there – it should be more fun.

Work is a billion times better than May last year, it's going good, I am enjoying it.

11. Be exited about getting up.
Not everyday, just a whole lot more days.

Yep, this one I can tick off, I still hate getting up early to get in the gym, but once I am there, it's all worth it.

I am hoping that by December I can say I have done everything I have set my mind to, lost the weight I wanted to loose, and be the happy guy I deserve to be.

GOALS FOR 2013

1.  Weigh 89.9 kg's.

I am at 107.8 kg's - that is 17.9 kilo's I want to drop. That is 1.49kg per month. That is 0.4 kg's per week. That is possible - This I can do, hopefully way before the end of this year.

2. Quit Smoking

For good, and I will have to, if I want to reach the rest of my goals.

3. Run a Half Marathon

I have got a year to do it, I would love to do this sooner rather than later.

4. Loose the belly

I'll be running, I'll be training, I'll better be loosing the belly.

5. Blog more

I enjoy blogging, I enjoy sharing, I want to track my progress, I will blog more.

6. Don't diet - ever.

I am losing weight going high protein, low carb. I don't want to diet, ever again. This is a lifestyle, I want to follow it.

That's the basics then, the first six, I will keep adding them as necessary. By the end of the year I would love to have these ticked, and the rest that I'll be adding.

Please add yours in the comments section, and thanks to Chris Barnes for the idea.

10 KG's in 2 MONTHS

It's the first of Rocktober, and it is unbelievable how fast this year is fucking off under me! So 2 months to December, and proper summer. I have lost a few kg's since I started blogging. Anf been thru a few mdeical hiccups, and I have got a Cpap machine, and I bought a new house, and I am still not weighing in the 90's!

So, again, it is time for some new targets - With a 1 December deadline!

It is 8 weeks till December - so , it a aggresive, yet healthy weight loss rate, I should be able to loose about 1.6 kg's per week. 8 weeks = 12.8 kg's.

Currently, I am at 106.6 kg's. So if I loose 12.8 I'd be at 93.8kg's. I will be over the moon with that, but, if I can get below 90 I'd would be the best christmas present ever.

I am off to Cape Town this weekend for a wedding, the weekend therafter I have a Round Table area conference, and then the year end parties start.

The plan -

To get at least 45 minutes  per day of some kind of workout 6 times per week.
I am getting back to gym in the mornings from tommorow.
Cardio in the evenings.

I lost everything I have by just eating better and cutting out most carbs, I will have to keep that going.

I will blog more, as it gives me a space to moniter my progress. I'll use my Iphone a bit more. The tactio health app is really cool, and I'll make sure to input data more. With sports tracker I can see how far I have gone and for how long, plus, music helps while I walk/jog.

It's not quite hot enough yet, but summer is coming fast. So here is hopefully my secret weapon. I want to get back in the pool. I have always been quite a good swimmer, and there is few other sports that gives you a full body workout like swimming does. My plan is to go for a nice 40 minute swim in my lunch break, and see the kilo's fall off.

In the end it still boils down to this - The more you put in, the more you nees to put out!

I'll be trying to limit the what I put in, to heathly options, and put out as much energy as possible.

I have been reading quite a few weight loss blogs and success stories, and I honestly can't wait to be able to post my own before and after pics!

LEARNING TO SLEEP WITH MY CPAP MACHINE - And new Targets

It seems that at last I am getting used to sleeping with my CPAP machine. It took me the better part of a month, but I have got it sorted now. I played around with the settings quite alot and I now have found that by putting the heater completely off, I sleep like a dead horse. I like the clod wind, and that makes a big difference. My mouth is pretty dry when I wake up, but it is 100% worth it. I found some great info on www.apneasupport.org on how to change my own pressure settings. I took it from for to 6.5 and it is making a world of differnce. Still think my mask may be a little to big, so I might invest in another one somewhere down the line.

Summer is almost here, which means earlier mornings and later evenings, but best of all, it means we have got sun, and warm weather!I have lost just over 10 kilo's from the 1st of May up untill now. That is about 2.5 kilo's a month, or 700 g a week. I have read that men can loose up to 1.5 kilo's per week, and it will still be seen is helathy weight loss. I really have not been doing much exercising at all. And have mostly just been cutting out carbs where I can, and making informed choices when I eat. What I have noticed is that my weight is staying down. Also, without all the refines shit and carbs like white bread, I don't feel as bloted as I used too. So the new dat is 1 Desember 2012. I want to be at 89.9 kg's then. It's something to work towards, and I am actually looking forward to that.

The Summer is Magic.

Cheers,

PROGRESS

My first post on this blog was on the 2nd of May, I then weighed a 112kg's. Today, 5 months later, I weigh 103kg's. To be honoust, with all the sickness and shit I have been through, and all the meds and stuff, I really that do close to fuckall excersise wise. Still, it is 9 kg's later. What has changed, is that weighing 89kg's does'nt seem all that impossible anymore. I know it is still a long way to go, but I feel as though I am on the journey, and slowly making progress. My big ideal for September is to get back into the 90's. I dont care if it is 99.99kg's, just getting under a 100kg's will be fanfuckingtastic. That is basiclly 3 kilo's in a 27 days, which I think I can do even before the end of the month. The big goal has changed a bit though - I want to get to 85 Kilo's by 1 December 2012. That is three solid months, and that's what I am going for. Also, I need my waist to get down to 110cm. At the moment I am at 127, in may I was 136. They say you should be at less than 100cm. We will see if I can get there.

I am back on my bike, and had quite a tough 40 minutes last night. It went terrible, and my legs need to get back in shape. My plan is to do at least 40 minutes of cardio of some sorts per day, and then start incorporating some weight/resistance training.

Having shakes and apples and salads and proteins, and trying to completely cut out refined shit like soft drinks, white breads, sweets etc.

Whiskey or Whisky and water is my drink of choice now.

We took some photo's last Sunday, I am hoping I can do a nice before and after set come December.

I'll keep you posted.

16 kilo's in 50 days!

Hectic, hopefully possible! Otherwise I want to get as close as possible!

Got this great weight loss tracking app on my Iphone called TargetWeight PRO. It let's you track your weight loss and you can take pictures etc to follow your weight loss.

Not so easy to train when it is -2`c outside in the morning when I leave for work at about 06:30.

My wife still gets up at 5 and goes to gym for about 45 minutes daily. have no clue how she gets it done every morning. She definitly has more will power then me. Truth is, she think she must loose like 8 kays while I think she is in great shape. Anyhoo, 16 is a lot. i have kinda rapped my head around it and realize I'll have to train myself to near death, and eat right.

I'm going on with two shakes a day, and the rest high protein and no refined stuff of any sort. I'm also back on the phedra cuts from tommorow.

Hope it's warm where you are!
