THE 2012 recap

Firstly, sorry I have not updated this blog in such a long time. Here's the honest truth:

I fell of the wagon, my diet has been non existent in the last month, I ate like a pig, drank like Lindsay Lohan and did as much exercise as Michael Moore. It's all part and parcel, and here then, the highs, lows and memories of 2012.

THE BIGGEST LOWS

  • Getting depressed, sick, passing out at work.
  • Gaining weight...again
  • Not loosing what I wanted to.
  • Screwed up at work due to sickness.

THE BIGGEST HIGHS

  • Buying a new house
  • My CPAP machine
  • Getting my sickness sorted out with above.
  • My 2 year anniversary.
  • Losing about 10 kilo's
  • Lot's more laughs than cries.
  • Family that yet again showed that they care, more than I'd ever imagine.
  • A WIFE - that stuck around through the worst times, and made the best times that much better.
Life is life, and we have to life it. I had some bad times in 2012, it was far from the best year of my life, and it may have been the worse. There was some real bad times, times where it really felt as if I was at the bottom of the pit.

Then there was the good times, which where very good. The smiles, laughs, parties, spending time at home with my wife and feeling 100% content and happy. Parties with my dad, mom, brothers and good friends. That's the times that make it all worth while, and that will always keep my HIGH list much more interesting and longer than my LOW list.

Here's to a 2013 without a low list, and a very long HIGH list.

Thanks for reading my blog in 2012, I'll be back in 2013, to welcome a new year of weight loss, diet ups and downs. And life in general.

Start your 2013 on a high, and end 2012 like there is no tomorrow.

FEELING FAT

It's been two hectic weeks. I was on the road quite a lot, didn't get as much sleep as I should have, and ate some really bad meals in between.

I`m back on the horse though. I'll only do a weigh in tomorrow morning, but I feel bloated, constipated, and all and all pretty fucking fat. Hopefully I didn't gain to much, or maybe I am in for one hell of a surprise. I hope so. 1 Month left of what has been the weirdest year of my life.

I'll still do a 2013 recap post, but we still have some days left, and I still have some kilo's to drop.

Have a good week.

Make a difference.

weigh in winning

I`m not Charlie Sheen winning yet, but I'm getting closer. Here's the weekend update.

I am down to 105kg's dead, wished it was 104.9, but still, it's coming down. That 99.9kg mark keeps creeping closer, and I am really looking forward to it! Wife got out of hospital on Saturday, I feel so bad for her part. She has been exercising like a crazy person but needs to relax now and let her wounds heel for at least 2 weeks. She is really unhappy about this.

We had a good weekend at home and just relaxed as she can't do much, and needed to rest. I'm very happy with my weekend, never really overindulged, and kept my diet in good nick. I probably could have had some more water, but I am back on water again this morning, and I have knocked back about a liter so far.

My wife suggested we start jogging together once she is up and running again, it's something I am looking forward to, plus, we can do it together, it will just take me some more time to get to her fitness level. My big dream is to do the 2oceans with her next year, and if we can get training there is no reason why I can't run 21.1km come March next year. So that is a big goal, and I am looking forward to that journey, I am positive I will loose even more weight along the way, and it is a great goal to work towards. I love spending time with my wife, and if we can train together, and do the odd race together, it will be awesome.

So here's to a new week, and new goals, and loosing 5 more kilo's

Wife in hospital, and I am still doing good!

My wife started feeling bad on Monday, long story short, she ended up going to her GP on Wednesday, who immediately booked her into hospital, as she was dehydrated. Found out about 10 minutes ago that her appendix is going to be removed this afternoon. So, please spare a thought for her. It's been kind of boring being all alone at home, and I did some stuff I'd never do when she's around. I watched a whole lot of SuperSport last night, and had a swim in our pool with the dogs, who are both clearly missing her. In other news, my diet is going great, and so is my workout regime. Looking forward to the weekend, I have got a yearend function brunch tomorrow, and the rest will be spend lounging around, watching rugby, the odd braai, and more lounging around.

Enjoy your weekend, we'll chat Monday, when it's weigh in time!

Going Strong

A good friend gave me a huge compliment today. He said that I should watch out, because soon my pants will start falling off.  So I know I am winning this battle of the bulge. People are noticing, and that makes a heap of a difference to my mentality, and just motivates me to keep going. I played some squash last night, it was good fun, very exhausting, and a pretty good 40 min workout. I will be going for a swim in my lunch hour today, and hopefully at least twice a week. It makes more sense to me, plus, I'll have some more time at home to fix what needs to be fixed, and I can then swim in my lunch break, and play squash at night.

In other news, my wife is down with a bad stomach flu, I am hoping I don't catch it. Feel really sorry for her, she hates being sick, but for one or another reason she gets sick quite often.

I am really hoping Monay's weigh in will be a good one, I am working my ass off to make it that way.

That's it for now, I am off to my first lunch time swim session.

I am gaining weight...says my scale

Well, I picked up about 1 kg since my last weigh in  a week ago. The thing is, with all the swimming and squash and some weight training, I figure I may have gained a little bit of muscle. My beer belly is definitely smaller, I feel lighter, and I am definitely fitter than I have been in a long time. I am still very disappointed that I didn't loose any weight this week. I;ll keep on going to the pool this week, check what I eat, and hopefully next Monday I have dropped some again. I'm just going to go all out this week and do as much training as possible, and eat all the high protein good stuff. So here is to another week on the journey, and to keepin going.

Good luck to you all on your journey's.

SQUASH IS BRUTAL

I got stuck at work last night, only left at 19:45. Had some healthy high protein dinner! And then on the squash courts with R. It was no joke, really battled. All land all, a very good 40 minute workout. I am sure swimming is just as bad, I just feel better in the water. Back to the pool tonight. Legs, arms and shoulders in pain today, but it is a good pain!

Have a good Wednesday.

Swimming and Winning

105.7 kg, that's where I'm at.
I'm over the moon.

Woke up this morning not really feeling it, got on the scale, saw 106.7kg and immediately I was amped to get back in the pool tonight, eat right, and get to the magical 2 digits I long for as soon as possible.

Had a double wammy workout last night. Fist went for a good 40 minute swim session, which left me exhausted. I am still cramping in the pool, but I can feel that I am getting stronger, fitter, meaner and leaner.

Then I went home, put on some fresh gear, and headed to the squash courts, build up a good sweat, and really enjoyed the outing. I'll definitely work some more squash games into my week. It's good fun, and me and my playing partner are pretty even so that makes for good intense games.

Had 2 lamb chops for dinner, a lot of water during the day, and some muesli and fruits.

All is good, I am happy.

My wife, my brother and his wife, and 4 of my mates gym in the morning. They go at 5:30. I want to join, but it's just so damn early. Looking into playing squash in the mornings rather than gym, and then I will have to do some weight exercises somewhere else in the day.

Have a good Tuesday.

FRIEND MAKING MONDAY: 10 THINGS TO BE THANKFULL FOR

  1. I'm married to the best part of my morning, noon, and night.
  2. I'm getting fitter.
  3. I'm feeling lighter.
  4. I'm becoming healthy living personified (with a few beers thrown in)
  5. We have bought a house.
  6. I have more than enough friends who laughs with me.
  7. It's summer, the sun is shining, and I am alive and kicking.
  8. I live in the most beautiful, diverse, and overall most awesome country in the world, ever.
  9. Work is great.
  10. I look forward to waking up in the morning!

WEEKEND UPDATE

Today I am proud, happy, and amazed to report that I behaved well this weekend!

Friday night me and the wife chilled out at home, I had a nice stir fry for dinner, I made it with fresh veggies, and some lean beef. It was really good, and I did not even really miss the pasta or rice that would normally go with it.

Saturday morning I had some leftover stir fry for breakfast, then off to work, and then I went for a Nice 300m swim. It wasn't much off a session, but I felt good about just going and getting my heart rate elevated for a while.

For lunch, me and some mates went out to a new place in town, it's pretty Mexican, so I had some chicken wings and a piece of smoked pork rib. It was awesome. Again I didn't have any chips or bread even though there was and I have had a few drinks.

We met up with our wife's and had a big night out, it was a heap of fun, I had my Whisky and water, and maybe 1 or 2 Jagermeisters to many, but it was still much better than any other big Saturday night.

On Sunday I had some watermelon for breakfast, and then the wife and I went for a nice 2 hour cruise on our boat. The river was nice, and not windy at all, she got her tan on and I just relaxed and cruised along.

I drank  more than enough water, and I am really happy with how the weekend went. Weigh in tomorrow morning.

You must all have a great week.

it's the weeeeekend baby

Monday is weigh in again, I am looking forward to it.

I have had a fantastic week so far, I have eaten better than ever before, and really restricted my intake to the good stuff. I also drank a huge amount of water. I have enjoyed most of my healthy meals, and I am pretty stoked that I have done this for 5 days straight. I have also got my exercise in the pool everyday for at least 40 minutes.

It's the Weekend baby...and that scares me.

Routine is different, and there is more time for lounging around and drinks and braais and parties.

I am back in the pool after work, for another 1km session. This will be day 5 in  a row! I am getting fitter and can feel the difference every day.

Tonight, me and the wife will just chill at home and have something healthy to eat. Tomorrow I am working, and hoping to go for a swim after work, luckily I only work from 9 -12 tommorow.

And then we don't have any plans, so we will have to see what happens, either way, I am sticking to my guns this weekend, and staying healthy thru the weekend.

This is a lifestyle that I want to change, not a diet I am following.

Here's to reporting on Monday that I have been a good boy!

Enjoy your weekend,

W

A poem ... bwahahahaha

I feel funny today, probably because summer is here, it's a nice and hot 36 degrees here today, so, I figured I'd celebrite summer with a poem :

MY FIRST POEM

My blog keeps track of my weight,
Training, beers and ice cream when it’s late.

I want to lose this gut,
It puts me in a rut.

Previous posts will show my love of food,
The extra 20kg’s I carry put me in a bad mood.

I read your blogs for inspiration,
The hotdogs I ate can feed a nation.

Jack shit getting fit, thanks for your inspiration,
It is resulting in my perspiration.

114.4 kg’s is my starting weight,
I am 10 down, o, they protein I have ate.

99.9 is around the corner, never say never,
I’ll be happier than ever.

Once I am there,
My body will know I care.

USN DIET FUEL REVIEW

This is my first review, so I hope you like it. I have USN diet fuel mostly as a meal replacement for breakfast. I struggle to get food in to my body in the mornings, I have always been like that, and it is funny, seeing that I am about 25kg's overweight. I just don't feel lik eating in the morning.

I prefer the Chocolate flavour, it tastes a lot like a thick milkshake, although a bit more powdery. As a meal replacement, this fills me up big time. 1 serving is about 3 heaped scoops with 300 -350ml cold water or skimmed milk. I prefer mixing it with water, as it seems to mix thicker with milk, plus, the milk is just extra kilojoules to get rid of later. The vanilla is also a nice option, as you can then add some peanut butter or fruit to give it flavour.

Here is the products nutritional chart:

It is stacked with vitamins & minerals, and off course, protein heavy. USN is a trusted South African company who sells products across the globe these days, and this must be one of their top 3 products.

As a weight loss tool, I would highly recommend this, it lifts your metabolism, and keeps you full, plus, I definitely have more energy during the day when I had one of these for breakfast.

WEIGH IN

10.7.9 KG'S - THAT'S JUST OVER 2 KG'S DOWN FROM LAST WEEK!

Went for a swim last night, it was brutal, managed 700m. Will be back tonight, I know it will get easier, but I can't believe how much I struggled last night.

Still, I am losing weight, I feel good, and it is all good!

Here is Monday's menu:

I had a USN Diet Fuel for Breakfast.
Snacked on an apple around 11.
A tin of Tuna around 1.
Another apple at 3.
A nice green salad with a little olive oil around 5.
Dinner was 2 pieces of hake, done in the oven with some olive oil, salt & pepper, broccoli, and a poached egg. - Dinner was awesome.

I know my smallest meal should be dinner, but I really enjoy cooking, so I am trying to keep at healthy, it is also the only time I can make something, as I have the time, plus, I was hungry as hell coming back from the swim session.

I have been having a lot of water during the day, and it fills me up, and keeps me running to the loo.
Strange thing is, I am actually getting used to it know and crave water every now and again.

All and all, I am very happy with my progress, and committed to keep going.

WEEKEND UPDATE AND GUILT SHEET

The weekend was huge, big party on Thursday night, and another on Friday night - got in bed around 3 in the morning, had breakfast at 6, left at 7, teed off for a third round of golf in as many days. Only played 3 holes, felt something go in my back. Turns out I just pulled a muscle, and it will be fine. Had another party Saturday evening. Was fun, lay around the house yesterday and just chilled out.

Here is some of the bad stuff I put in body over the weekend:

  • Lots of jagermeister (at least 12 shots )
  • About 7 Whiskeys
  • 6 Vodka Redbulls
  • 12 Beers
  • 6 Lavodka Caramel Shots
  • 2 Hamburgers
  • 1 Plate of Chips
  • 1 Wimpy burger with Bacon & Egg
  • A Pizza
  • Guess about 2L worth of Coke and other soft drinks
  • Too many Dunhill Lights

Here is some of the good news:

  • I didn't have any chips, sweets, ice cream.
  • I drank a ton of water on the golf course and thru the day.
  • I played a lot of golf and walked a few kilo's
  • I got some fresh air.
  • I feel super.
Have not weighed yet, will do tomorrow morning and update accordingly.

Going for a swim tonight with my brother. I used to be quite the swimmer about 15 years back, so I am looking forward to it. Also scared shitless as I know it screws you up like no other aerobic exercise.

I could have watched what I ate a bit better these past few days. I know that. Still, it was 60 times better than it would have been 6 months ago. I still feel I am on the right track.

Golf, water, progress, and a big weekend.

Played well yesterday and really enjoyed the golf. Had lots of water, and all and all a good day. Wife and I went out for dinner with my folks. I realised that it ain't that easy to order in a restaurant. Half the salads have something in it that I don't really want to have, be it a sauce, or a crumbed something.

Opted for chicken wings, without any crumbs, that is grilled and served with olive oil and chilli's. Had a salad on the side. Normally I would have had a steak, sauce and chips, or a burger or pizza. What surprised me was that I really enjoyed the meal and did not really miss the pizza or carb heavy stuff I used to chow.

back at work today, and the in laws are sleeping over tonight, so I will probably have a braai or put something protein high meat heavy in the oven. Tomorrow morning I am off the golf tourni about 250km from home, sleeping over there and then back on Saturday for some more golf in the AM.

We have a show on Saturday evening, and the Currie Cup final is also on. GO Province! SO it is a packed few days to look forward to, and then a relaxing Sunday at home.

Really chuffed that I have gone 4 days on my high protein / low carb lifestyle, and looking forward to Monday's weigh in. I don't expect to have lost much, but I am feeling more energised, and it feels as if I might be loosing some.

Summer is almost here so let's hope I can get in the pool next week and get some extra exercise.

I know I want to weigh 89.9kg's, and that is the big target, but if I can just get down to 99.9kg's that would be a small victory on it's own. It's halfway, it's 15 kg's gone, and it would be fantastic. If I get there, I will never be above 100 again, that I know, I just need to get there. For a change, I feel as I am making progress, making the right food choices is becoming easier, and more of a habit. I am also getting more and more active. No one said this journey would be easy, and it certaintly isn't.

I am getting there, gram by gram!

I'll probably chat to you again on Monday, so enjoy your weekend, go for gold.

STILL A GOOD WEEK

Had a few shakes, and 2 apples yesterday, also about 300g of Biltong. A heap of water, and some whisky, as we had some suppliers take us out for drinks.

I am pretty happy with the way it's going.

Playing golf today, and then again on Friday and Saturday as the bank is taking us on a trip.

Will do my best to stick to my lots of water habit, and eat the healthy stuff.

Unfortunately, I know I'll be taking some more whisky on board.

Hopefully all the walking balances that out.

easy salad without lettuce...cause i don't like lettuce

Here is my favourite salad, I had it last night, you can have it as is, or add some tuna, chicken or steak strips.

What you will need:

1 cucumber - sliced in about 1cm cuts.
3 tomatoes - quartered
half an onion, in nice fat rings
a few olives
some low fat feta cheese

And then:

Drizzle with olive oil.
Squeeze some fresh lemon juice on it.
Salt.
Pepper.

Enjoy as is or add some tuna, chicken, or beef strips.

I like it cause its a big salad, with big pieces of veg, and it tastes awesome.

It's healthy as hell too.

Enjoy.

What I crave

I am still on my big protein diet / diet shakes / meat / chicken / fish / more meat diet. I am pretty used to going no carb / low carb by now. Here's what I miss most:

  • Hot dogs - I have a hot dog fetish, as previous posts will confirm. Plus, it's quick, easy and tasty.
  • Pies - I love a pepper steak pie, with a Coke, and Gaviscon.
  • White bread sarmies - With Peanut butter, syrup, and more butter.
  • Pizza - Figure I don't have to explain this.
  • Burgers - Particularly a King Steer Burger
  • Coke - I know there is nothing good in it, but there are few things better than a ice cold coke.
  • Nosh - I'm not much of a sweet tooth, but I love a Nosh bar.
Looking at it know, it ain't that bad, I am not a huge chip fan ( in any form ), so guess I am lucky, lots of other people really crave potatoes, I don't really struggle with it.

I have also found a few new healthy things I really like, and made some interesting dishes that tastes great and is healthy.

It's going good, and I'm getting good at this weight loss healthy eating thing.

May the scale be with you.

HOT DOGS - WITH THE WORLDS BEST HOT DOG SAUCE

I have a dangerous addiction with hot dogs. Not just the hot dog itself, but very much also with a special hot dog sauce. More on the sauce later. Firstly, a few hot dog basics.

THE BUN -

Go for a soft roll, white, and not crispy, most importantly, fresh.

The Sausage, Wors, Vienna, Dog

It should'nt be huge, you are looking for a thin sausage, so that you still have enough space for the sauce. Some people insists on boerewors, recipe here. I enjoy anything thin and warm, but like viennas, and german frankfurters the most. In the end, this is up to you.

The Sauce

I first had this sauce in primary school, then spent a few years after school looking for it, now, here you go.

Sautee n onion untill translusant, then add equal parts of the following -

ANY Margerine
MS BALLS chutney
ALL Gold Tomato Suace

Let it all simmer for a few minutes, and taste away, you can freeze this sauce and reheat as you wish.

I am sure you can use another brand of chutney or Tomato Sauce, but this is the best quality, best tasting, hot dog sauce ever. And you can eat it on anything else. Works nicely on burgers, and even chicken and steak.

Unfortunetly this is not a calorie counting meal, but rather something I miss everyday, and I eat as much as possible, when I conveniently forget that I should be on a diet!

LANCE - THE PAIN, THE DISSAPOINTMENT

When I was fit and in shape, about 10 years ago, Lance was an idol. The guy overcame cancer, and he lost a ball, and he won, the tour de France, 7 fucking times. We cycled, we tried to be Lance, we bought the US Postal jerseys, the yellow Livestrong armbands, the book - "It's not about the bike"- we'll it sure as hell were'nt about the bike.

I feel betrayed, pissed off, and like I wasted 3 weeks a year for way to many years watching le Tour. The way it's going now, they might as well make blood transfusions and EPO legal, as it sounds like every pro cyclist is anyways enjoying the stuff.

I want to rant on, but honestly, I can't, I am afraid I'll start crying...again...screw you Lance.

Where's all the traffic coming from

I am having huge traffic on my blog today, don't know why, but for all the first time visitors, welcome!

EEESH...what a big weekend

So, as expected, this weekend was pretty big, in fact, it was closer to huge. Had about 84 drinks to many. Had about 5kg's of cards to many. Completely fell of the weight loss horse. And, yes, I am feeling shit about it, but it's not the end of the world. I have always said I won't quit my very active social life, or stop eating things I enjoy. Yes I had to much of everything. Yes, I put on a few kilo's. Yes I will still eb much fitter and lighter come 1 December. Back to normal today, back to checking ehat I eat, back at the gym tommorow morning.

Keep going!

SALMON & SALAD

Here's yesterday's menu. Had a USN diet fuel for breakfast, they fill me up pretty well, and contains a lot of protein. Doesn't taste to bad either. It has a huge amount of minerals and vitamins and a serving packs just over 800 kj. More on the product here. Had a apple as a snack, and a 3 Vital rice cakes for lunch. They don't taste like much, but keeps me chewing for a while and seems to make me feel full. Had 2 Phedra Cut Slim Packs during the day. This is an awesome product, and gives me heaps of energy. It also tastes really good. In fact, it tastes better than any other diet product I have ever had. It contains just 12 kj per serving. It is a nice refreshing drink that packs a punch. More on the product here. For dinner, I popped some salmon into the oven. I used my Pestor & mortar and smashed up a heap of different herbs, some fresh garlic, salt & pepper, and smeared it on top of the salmon. Made a nice salad to go with it, and made a olive oil and lemon juice dressing to give some more flavour. I'll try to take pics of my meals so that you can comment on it.

Went for a nice walk with my wife and the dogs just outside town on some gravel roads. Forgot my Iphone at home, so don't know how far I walked, but we ere busy for about 35 minutes. Would have liked to have gone a bit longer, but it is still getting dark pretty early. My walking pace is definitely a bit slower then hers, but she kept with me and it was nice to have the company.

MY CPAP MACHINE WONDER

I have not said much on my blog about my CPAP machine, but it is truly something I can't live without, so I figure it deserves it's own post.

Those who follow my blog, would remember all my mediacl issues, and how I got to sleeping with a elephant trunk connected to my face. For those in the dark, here's a quick recap.

* I had no energy
* I was depressed
* I had sugar issues
* I have high blood pressure
* My cholestrol was shit
* I have water retention issues
* I passed out at the office for no reason and woke up at the hospital.

and then:

* Went to 4 doctors
* Got hooked up to a billion wires
* Realized I dont really sleep
* Got the news that I wake up 34 times per hour.

and then:

I got my CPAP machine!

The thing is, sleeping with a CPAP machine takes a lot of getting used to. It took me about a month to realy get used to it, and every now and then I still need to make a few adjustments.

I have a Fisher & Paykell Auto unit with a humidifier, and although it was R12 000, it is worth every cent, every night, every time!

I actually sleep now, and wake up feeling like I slept. I figure I have about 654 % more energy, I do not get sleepy in the afternoons, and by large, I am definitly more awake. Also, I am starting to really enjoy the col air it blows out, althoug you can change it, as the F&P CPAP has a heater. I did change the pressure from 4 to 6.5 and this also made a big diffirence. You should be able to get off these machines, but honestly, I am enjoying it so much did I figure I porbably never would.

The website apneasupport.org helped me a heap. I'd say anyone who is new to CPAP machines should go and have alook there. Someone on that forum has either asked the same questions or will be able to give you an answer.

Some people tend to loose weight on CPAP machines. The reason is pretty simple - as you are now actuaaly sleeping and getting proper rest. Your metabolism starts kicking in to gear the way it should, as you have the energy that weer missing when you were'nt sleeping. I am hoping I am one of them. I would anyway loose weight on it, as I now have the energy to actually do stuff that burns energy!

I'll check back tommorow.

10 KG's in 2 MONTHS

It's the first of Rocktober, and it is unbelievable how fast this year is fucking off under me! So 2 months to December, and proper summer. I have lost a few kg's since I started blogging. Anf been thru a few mdeical hiccups, and I have got a Cpap machine, and I bought a new house, and I am still not weighing in the 90's!

So, again, it is time for some new targets - With a 1 December deadline!

It is 8 weeks till December - so , it a aggresive, yet healthy weight loss rate, I should be able to loose about 1.6 kg's per week. 8 weeks = 12.8 kg's.

Currently, I am at 106.6 kg's. So if I loose 12.8 I'd be at 93.8kg's. I will be over the moon with that, but, if I can get below 90 I'd would be the best christmas present ever.

I am off to Cape Town this weekend for a wedding, the weekend therafter I have a Round Table area conference, and then the year end parties start.

The plan -

To get at least 45 minutes  per day of some kind of workout 6 times per week.
I am getting back to gym in the mornings from tommorow.
Cardio in the evenings.

I lost everything I have by just eating better and cutting out most carbs, I will have to keep that going.

I will blog more, as it gives me a space to moniter my progress. I'll use my Iphone a bit more. The tactio health app is really cool, and I'll make sure to input data more. With sports tracker I can see how far I have gone and for how long, plus, music helps while I walk/jog.

It's not quite hot enough yet, but summer is coming fast. So here is hopefully my secret weapon. I want to get back in the pool. I have always been quite a good swimmer, and there is few other sports that gives you a full body workout like swimming does. My plan is to go for a nice 40 minute swim in my lunch break, and see the kilo's fall off.

In the end it still boils down to this - The more you put in, the more you nees to put out!

I'll be trying to limit the what I put in, to heathly options, and put out as much energy as possible.

I have been reading quite a few weight loss blogs and success stories, and I honestly can't wait to be able to post my own before and after pics!

HOLIDAY TIME

My parents will be having their 30th wedding aniversary over the weekend. We are all heading out to Jeffreys Bay. Will be nice to have the whole family there. Probably won't be good for my waistline! Figure I will go for a proper walk everyday. For one or another reason, I find it much easier to train at any other destination than my home town. Anywhere near the coast seems just so much niceer, easier and more enjoyable. A change of scenery is all it is I suppose. I'll be gone untill Wednesday, so chat then.

The reason I changed my blog title, is that I have been followed by one or two people who should'nt be following me! Hopefulle I dropped them now!

Enjoy your Phuza Thursday!

Cheers,

LEARNING TO SLEEP WITH MY CPAP MACHINE - And new Targets

It seems that at last I am getting used to sleeping with my CPAP machine. It took me the better part of a month, but I have got it sorted now. I played around with the settings quite alot and I now have found that by putting the heater completely off, I sleep like a dead horse. I like the clod wind, and that makes a big difference. My mouth is pretty dry when I wake up, but it is 100% worth it. I found some great info on www.apneasupport.org on how to change my own pressure settings. I took it from for to 6.5 and it is making a world of differnce. Still think my mask may be a little to big, so I might invest in another one somewhere down the line.

Summer is almost here, which means earlier mornings and later evenings, but best of all, it means we have got sun, and warm weather!I have lost just over 10 kilo's from the 1st of May up untill now. That is about 2.5 kilo's a month, or 700 g a week. I have read that men can loose up to 1.5 kilo's per week, and it will still be seen is helathy weight loss. I really have not been doing much exercising at all. And have mostly just been cutting out carbs where I can, and making informed choices when I eat. What I have noticed is that my weight is staying down. Also, without all the refines shit and carbs like white bread, I don't feel as bloted as I used too. So the new dat is 1 Desember 2012. I want to be at 89.9 kg's then. It's something to work towards, and I am actually looking forward to that.

The Summer is Magic.

Cheers,

Have a good Tuesday!

PROGRESS

My first post on this blog was on the 2nd of May, I then weighed a 112kg's. Today, 5 months later, I weigh 103kg's. To be honoust, with all the sickness and shit I have been through, and all the meds and stuff, I really that do close to fuckall excersise wise. Still, it is 9 kg's later. What has changed, is that weighing 89kg's does'nt seem all that impossible anymore. I know it is still a long way to go, but I feel as though I am on the journey, and slowly making progress. My big ideal for September is to get back into the 90's. I dont care if it is 99.99kg's, just getting under a 100kg's will be fanfuckingtastic. That is basiclly 3 kilo's in a 27 days, which I think I can do even before the end of the month. The big goal has changed a bit though - I want to get to 85 Kilo's by 1 December 2012. That is three solid months, and that's what I am going for. Also, I need my waist to get down to 110cm. At the moment I am at 127, in may I was 136. They say you should be at less than 100cm. We will see if I can get there.

I am back on my bike, and had quite a tough 40 minutes last night. It went terrible, and my legs need to get back in shape. My plan is to do at least 40 minutes of cardio of some sorts per day, and then start incorporating some weight/resistance training.

Having shakes and apples and salads and proteins, and trying to completely cut out refined shit like soft drinks, white breads, sweets etc.

Whiskey or Whisky and water is my drink of choice now.

We took some photo's last Sunday, I am hoping I can do a nice before and after set come December.

I'll keep you posted.

W

2 months later

Yo all,

I have been missing for 2 months! Haha, well I am back. Here is a short summary of what happened while I was gone:

I passed out at work, spent a night in the hospital. Went to see about a billion doctors to find out why. Ended up at a Neurologist who monitored me over night to see what happens in my brain while I am sleeping.

Got the following news: I wake up 26 times per hour. This keeps me tired and seems to be the reason I suffer from high blood pressure, high sugar, and my weight to name but a few.

It was quite a surprise getting the news, I figured I sleep pretty well. Turns out I don’t, at all.

At least this is some news, which makes me feel better. I am sleeping with a machine now, which basically gives you more air, and pushes air into my lungs when I stop breathing! I am definitly feeling more awake during the day.

That's the machine I sleep with, and it is working great.

It does take some time to get used to it, and you should start feeling a big difference in about 3 weeks. I have been using it for about 10 days now, still getting used to it. But I do feel much better in the mornings and much more awake during the afternoon.

Anyhow, that was to bring you up to speed, next I'll post on the weight loss...

About a month

Had a big weekend away with some old mates from high school. We did some hunting and quite a bot of drinking. My weight is still exactly the same. I have decided to do a bit of detoxing this week after all the bad stuff I put in my body this weekend. I have had 4 Phedra-Cuts this morning, and about 2 l water. Had 4 more Phedra-Cuts for lunch and I'll have 4 more around 4'0 clock this afternoon. Not planning to eat anything today and I am trying to flush my system a bit today. From tommorow onwards I'll get back on the Meal replacement shakes during the day and healthy anti carb options for dinner. Hoping to get back into training somewhere this week! i have done quite a lot of reading on the matter and the vote seems to still be out on whether you actually loose more kilo's excersing than dieting. With millions of different views around, I tried to make it easier for myself and summed it up as follows:

To loose weight you need to put out more energy than you put in. That pretty much sums it up. From there, you need to look at what you put in. That's where i decided to go high protein low carb. Also important for me was to cut sugar, which translates into leaving out all soda's and fruit juices.

WHAT I SAY I MAY EAT:

  • Red Meat, not to fatty
  • Chicken - breasts mainly
  • Fish - a lot of tinned tuna
  • Eggs - hardboiled and kept in fridge for whenever
  • Salads - with any of above - mostly leafy
  • Fruits, moderatly - alot of sugar
  • Water in big quintities
  • Meal replacement shakes.
Very busy at work, as always. I am still pretty depressed, not getting any better. I wish there was a way to describe how I feel. I have'nt been in a good mood in forever. I find myself trying to confince myself that I am in a good mood. It feels like I am constantly in a dark shitty place. Try to remind myself that I have lot's to be greatfull for, but hell, even that does'nt seem to help.

I am hoping some excersize will lift my spirits. To not laugh, not sleep and not enjoy life, is not what we are here for.

I'll do a stat update soon.

16 kilo's in 50 days!

Hectic, hopefully possible! Otherwise I want to get as close as possible!

Got this great weight loss tracking app on my Iphone called TargetWeight PRO. It let's you track your weight loss and you can take pictures etc to follow your weight loss.

Not so easy to train when it is -2`c outside in the morning when I leave for work at about 06:30.

My wife still gets up at 5 and goes to gym for about 45 minutes daily. have no clue how she gets it done every morning. She definitly has more will power then me. Truth is, she think she must loose like 8 kays while I think she is in great shape. Anyhoo, 16 is a lot. i have kinda rapped my head around it and realize I'll have to train myself to near death, and eat right.

I'm going on with two shakes a day, and the rest high protein and no refined stuff of any sort. I'm also back on the phedra cuts from tommorow.

Hope it's warm where you are!

the slumplings

I have some owning up to do! Have'nt been following my diet exactly 100% to the T! Me and my dad went to Bloem this week for a meeting. Ate some Chinese in a propoer Chinese restaurant, it reminded me of me and my wifes trip to Thailand last year. I really love their cuisine, it's very flavourfull, and very healthy. I have had the odd bit of rice here and there and have'nt been drinking as much water or protein shakes. It's Friday today, and I am really looking forward to a nice realxing weekend at home without doing to much. It's a public holiday tommorow so I will be sleeping in. Monday I will be back in full force and shed another few kays before August 8. Really admire my wife for getting up around 5 three times a week to go and gym. I'll get her to throw me out of bed with her from next week. I try and remind myself that this shoulf be a lifestyle and not a diet. And slowly but surely it feeld that I am getting there. With all the water I have been having I find myself craving water every now and again. Also, reading food labels and doing comparisons puts some more perspective into the stuff I stuff into my face! 9 jellybabies is pretty much the same as 2 Banana's. Well, go and read your food labels - enjoy your weekend - I'll be weighing in on Monday - and updating - and putting pedal to the medal!

HAPPY BDAY TO ME

Well, it's my birthday today. So happy bday to me. Had a good weekend with some good golf in  freezing cold conditions. Did not do a weigh in today as I am really not feeling any thinner/slimmer and don't want to bog myself down by seeing I gained a kilo, or two. Will do weigh in later this week or on Monday at the latest. Very hard to do any exercise at the moment. When I left for work this morning it was minus 2 outside and pitch dark. When I get home tonight it will be about 10 degrees and pitch black. Still, I will have to start doing some exercise at night again. I am looking to do some intense abs this week, maybe I can start loosing a few centimeters around my belly a bit sooner that way. Eitherway, you must all have a good week. I'll catch up again soon!

Nearly 10

Had a big weekend away with Round Table. Unfortunetly I did'nt keep 100% to my diet, but I did to pretty good. Had a few bread rolls - which gave me a hell of a bad case of indigestion, but I did have a few salads, so it went much better than usually. I only had one Creme Soda, and that was only because I felt like a train ran over me on Saturday morning and we still had a whole day of partying left. Had the odd Jagermeister - about 8 if I remember correctly...but, not a single brandy and coke or any beers. Just a whole lot of whisky and water.

I wasn't expecting much with my weigh in this morning, as I figured I probably did put on  a few kilo's this weekend, but alas - I lost some more! I am now down to 105.5kg's from  my starting weight of 114.4kg's. That is 8.9 kg's lost. Pretty stoked, and it is great motivation to get to 10 down. The diet fuel I am drinking is helping plenty. They keep me full, and gives me a real nice dose of energy. Tend to have them for breakfast and lunch, with an apple or something in between. Dinner has been healthy, high protein and no carb.

The plan for this week is to go to gym everyday after work and see if I can go for a walk or a cycle when I get home, it's just less than 2 months to go and I want to get down as much as possible!

I am hoping that by keeping do the diet fuel and adding some gym work I drop one or two more this week.

Enjoy your week!

Monday, 28 May 2012

hOOOWOOOOO

It's a very happy Monday for me! My weigh in was this morning, and it was some good news! 107.8 is 6.6 kg's lighter than 14 days ago.

Very good motivation to keep it going! Have got a bit of a runny nose, but I am fighting through it! Going to gym tonight and then for 1 30 min cardio session, either walking/jogging or a cycle.

Hope you have an awesome week.

GOING STRONG!

Still have'nt weighed myself. I have done 15 days of the high protein/shake diet. And atleast 30 minutes cardio to go along with it. Hoping to start doing some gym work from Monday in the evenings after work. It feels as if I might have lost a few kilo's. So hold thumbs for Monday, let's hope I get there. I have had 2 days where I have just been drinking USN's diet fuel. I have one serving in the morning and one around 15:00 and then another around 18:00. They keep me feeling pretty full and the Phedra cut also seem to make most cravings go away. Still noticing that I feel more energized/awake now that I am not eating any bread/pasta.etc. What I don't miss is that tiredness and lethargic feeling you get after absobing a nice big fat pizza! The cravings still there bet it feels as if it is getting a little bit better. Made my wife ( who now has the flu, about a week after me) some butternut soup and a few pieces of toasted ciabatta the other night. It took some will power not to have a bite of bread! Have made a few interresting meals meals without any carbs the last week. Had kudu steak strips with veggie stir fry, a whole lot of boiled eggs with spinach, and about 5 different saleads with biltong, meat strips, tuna, pilchards. I have noticed that you can still enjoy making these healthy foods and with enough garlic and chilli, they actually taste great! I will start taking pics of the food I make and maybe some of the places I go walking so that you can get a better idea. Planning a walk with the dogs tonight for about 3 kilo's. This will be the 5th night and I am starting to look forward to it. I pop some nice upbeat tunes onto my Iphone and that keeps me going for a good 30 minutes. I am going for a nice light mountain bike session tommorow morning, and I am hoping to do about 15 km in 45 or so minutes. I am only coming in to work at 09:00 so I'll start my Saturday with a nice workout. e are just chilling tonight as the wife is still not feeling her best. We have a party tommorow eve so hopefulle she feels better by then!

I'll post some pics and an update tommorow.
Go the Stormers,
Enjoy your weekend!

BACK IN TOWN

Back in town after 4 days in Cape Town. Have been trying out the protein diet, call it what you want - Tim Noakes/Palio/Atkins. It has been a week now and I have stuck to it rigirously, have had rice one, in Cape Town, had 2 pieces of sushi. Otherwise, no soft drinks, or pasta/bread products of any kind. There is a few changes:

* Definitly less lithargic and tired.
* No heartburn whatsoever.
* Less bloated constipated.

It feels like I dropped a kilo or two. Have'nt been doing any training as I was still sick. Much better now and ready for a nice jog/walk tommorow morning.

I think I will only weigh myself on Monday, and then post the progress.

Have a good Tuesday!

THE FLU

Well, had to skip work the last 2 days, I was down and out with the a bad cold. Wish it was just man flu but this was a proper cold. Still feel like shit today and still on a bunch of meds. Figure I should be better by Monday, so hopefully I can start working out on Monday. Have not weighed myself yet, and will do that on Monday as well. Figure I might have dropped 1 or 2 kilo's as I have'nt really been eating much. Back on the job today and got some catching up today. We sold our house and are now hunting for a new one. Wife much more amped than me. I just feel down and out with this cold and ball of fur in my head. Not much fun. Looking forward to a nicer, bigger place - just need to find one now, and start repaying a fresh new home loan! I'll post my stats on Monday.

STATS 2 MAY 2012

Jo Jo,

So here is the weigh in:

112.5 kg's
Waist - 132 cm

Weight to loose to 1 December - 22.6 KG's

Let's get it started!

Long weekend!

Well, with yesterdays public holiday and the long weekend that preceeded it, it was not a great weight loss weekend! We chilled out alot, and I baked a cake. Not what you would call the optimal weight loss regime. Anyhow, I have a docters appointment for the 8th of August. It is a checkup after the first appointment of a month ago. I have decided to at least be below 95kg’s on my next visit. That will please the cardiologist, but it will please me even more. With that in mind, I have to loose a whole lot of kg’s till the 8th of August. In a way, it is quite nice, seeing that it gives me a new target to aim for. It’s 3 months to shed as much weight as possible. It works out to about 5 k’s every month, which works out to about 0.16 k’s per day.Which souns alot easier! Wife has as idea that I should start trainng with her in the mornings. looks like I will have to give it a go!

11 by 12

Here is 11 things I really want to do, be able to say, by the 12 month:

1. I reached my target weight – 89.9 kg’s.
This is the big goal, this is what I am here for, this is what I will do.

2. I have quit smoking – for good – for ever.
I have tried many a time, I have read about people quitting when they start to exercise as you really don’t feel like it – I hope I will be one of those people.

3. I can run a half marathon.
I never was much of a runner, I was a good cyclist and swimmer – this is something I figure I could do – I have 6 months to get there. Tommorow will be an early morning!

4. Get my waist below 100cm.
I’m currently at 130cm, it should be 94cm, if I am below 100, I would be happy!

5. Get rid of most of my pills.
I drink a wide array of pills, for all kinds of stuff, losing weight and quitting smoking should get me of a few. – More on this later.

6. Never diet – ever.
I don’t want to loose weight, and put it on again, I want to keep it off, lifetyle change – not fad diet change.

7. Be commited
To keep loosing weight, keep running/swimming/cycling/going to gym.

8. Get positive.
I can be depressed – sometimes. I am no fun then, I don’t need that.

9. Appreciate my wife, more
I love her to death, she does a whole lot of shit I take for granted.

10. Enjoy work
I spend half my life there – it should be more fun.

11. Be exited about getting up.
Not everyday, just a whole lot more days.

Hello interwebs

I wil be using this blog to track my own personal weight loss and fitness journey.
I am a 27 year old guy who weighs 112kg’s. I am aiming to get my weight down to 89 kg’s. That’s 23 kilos I want to loose! I have no set date I am reaching for but obviously the sooner the better!
I used to be a keen sportsman and excelled at quite a few sports. Unfortunelty, I piled on weight after school at a steady pace ad put on about 35 kg’s in 10 years. Breaking it down, it is’nt that much per year. I’m just hoping it won’t take ten years to get rid of it again!
I have been inactive for the past 4 years so I will start slowly but surely. Along the way I will add pictures and stuff so that you can follow my progress as I go along this journey.
I amusing this blog to not only motivate myself, but to hopefully get some motivation from a reader or two as time goes on.
Cheers,
